When Chevonne Barrett came to the Brooklyn Workforce1 Career Center she was a Certified Nursing Assistant, previously employed as a Direct Care Worker at $8.50 p/h. She expressed interest in pursuing training as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to further her career. Following assessment Ms. Barrett was approved for EMT training which she completed in December 2009. Meanwhile, Ms. Barrett enlisted staff assistance in updating her resume and upon completion of training was ready to conduct a new job search.

Rene Villa is a Community Partner referral who availed himself
to several Workforce1 services, including the opportunity to upgrade his CDL Class
C license to a Class B license. Awarded an Individual Training Grant (ITG), Mr.
Villa was then able to shop for different CDL courses on the New York City Training
Guide until he found one that would most help him reach his personal and professional
goals.

Byron
Howell, a disabled Veteran, experienced several turns in his
career after being laid-off as an engineer and losing his next job as a car
salesman. Mr. Howell realized he was at another career crossroads, and met with
the New York State Department of Labor Veterans’ Representative at the Bronx
Workforce1 Career Center who arranged for Mr. Howell to meet with a Career
Advisor for assessment.

Percy Yip sought services from the Brooklyn Workforce 1 Career
Center after his company went out of business. Mr. Yip last worked as a Network
System Administrator from May 2006 until June 2007.

Vance
Collins came to Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center in February
2007. Mr. Collins was laid off after 20 years on the job as a production
manager in the garment industry. He knew he could not go back to the same
industry due to the relocation of garment companies, and decided to take a new
path.
