Job training helps Veteran build real estate career
Byron Howell, a disabled Veteran on unemployment, experienced several turns in his career after being laid-off as an engineer and losing his next job as a car salesman. Mr. Howell realized he was at another career crossroads, and met with the New York State Department of Labor Veterans’ Representative at the Bronx Workforce1 Career Center who arranged Mr. Howell to meet with a Career Advisor for assessment.

Mr. Howell expressed an interest in Real Estate and based on his prior experience in sales, he was approved for an Individual Training Grant for Real Estate training. Shortly after completing this training, Mr. Howell obtained employment as a Mortgage Broker. His interest in the Real Estate field is growing and he sees the Workforce1 Career Center planning as an integral part of his career development.
When asked about his experiences with the Workforce1 Career Center and occupational training, Mr. Howell stated: "I had no idea how much help I could get and have been able to build a new career in real estate. The training I accessed through the American Real Estate Institute was outstanding and helped me get placed in my job at AmeriTrust. As a Veteran I want other Vets to know what kind of help they can get through the Workforce1 Career Center."
