About Us
The Department of Small Business Services (SBS)
Small Business Services (SBS) runs New York City’s workforce development programs, which connect employers to a skilled workforce and provide training and placement services to the City’s adult workforce. Workforce1 Career Centers are located throughout the five boroughs and provide the City's jobseekers with a full array of employment services including career advisement, job search counseling, skills training, and job placement. SBS operates these centers in coordination with the New York State Department of Labor and the City University of New York, combining the expertise of many different organizations to provide a seamless network of employment services and business development resources.

The Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO)

The Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) was established by Mayor Bloomberg in 2006 to identify and implement innovative ways to reduce poverty in New York City. CEO works with City agencies to design and implement evidence-based initiatives, including strategies and programs, aimed at poverty reduction. With support from CEO, SBS has launched eight such initiatives which include Business Solutions Training Funds, Community Outreach, Advancement Programming in Workforce 1 Career Centers (EarnMore), NYC Training Guide, Sector-Based Career Centers, Retention and Advancement Centers, Employment Works, and most recently the Food Stamp Employment and Training Program.

    Workforce Investment Board (WIB)
The New York City Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is dedicated to supporting the Mayor’s economic development agenda by effectively and efficiently connecting New Yorkers to jobs and ensuring that employers throughout the City have the skilled workers they need to grow, compete and prosper.

Human Resources Administration and Department of Social Services (HRA/DSS)
HRA/DSS's mission is to make work central in the lives of all able-bodied New Yorkers receiving cash assistance. HRA contracts with community based employment and training organizations to provide job readiness training, placement services and vocational training to applicants and recipients of cash assistance. Through these services, in a structured and professional environment, HRA builds on each individual’s capacity to achieve job placement and ultimately career advancement.
